A-Z Band

 

"A-Z" is an exciting new group that reunites Fates Warning vocalist Ray Alder with Warlord and former Fates Warning drummer, the legendary Mark Zonder.

Joined by Philip Bynoe (Warlord, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt) on bass, Joop Wolters (Steve Walsh, Simon Phillips) on guitar and Vivien Lalu on keys the band have a melodic, progressive and deep sound, bringing to mind the classic era of Fates Warning albums like "Parallels" and "Pleasant Shade Of Grey" while recalling the hooks and melodies of Journey.

Ray Alder

A powerful and versatile heavy metal vocalist, Ray Alder is the current and long standing vocalist of Fates Warning, whose last two albums have seen their highest worldwide chart success to date. Ray took up the reins on their 1988 "No Exit" album and is also enjoying a recent successful solo album, the acclaimed "What The Water Wants" from 2019.

Mark Zonder

Having his first drum lesson at age 7, Mark Zonder is regarded as one of the world's finest and most influential prog rock drummers.
His work with both Warlord and Fates Warning is regarded as historically important in the evolution of progressive metal.
Mark is a much in demand session drummer and continues to expand his audience and style, one such example is the well received "Spirits Of Fire" band debut album featuring Chris Caffery and Tim 'Ripper' Owens from 2019.

Philip Bynoe  

Philip Bynoe

Three-time Grammy nominee and Emmy Award-winning bassist Philip Bynoe is a prolific recording and touring musician. Though best known for his work with virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai, Philip has played everything from heavy metal to R&B to classical and has worked with the likes of Kevin Eubanks and “The Tonight Show Band,” Dorian Holley (of Michael Jackson), Slash (of “Velvet Revolver”), Charlie Farren and “Ring of Fire” with Tony MacAlpine.
Music has been the focus of Philip’s life since early childhood.

Joop Wolters

More than 3 million players around the world heard Joop Wolters’ furious guitars thanks to his motion capture work on Quantic Dream’s “Beyond: Two Souls”.
The Dutch guitar hero, bass player and songwriter started his professional music career in 1994 thanks to the heavy prog/fusion band Arabesque and their instrumental debut album “Beyond the Veil”.
Joop Wolters’ fretboard prowess; with his signature guitar touch as well as progressive, adventurous bass chops cemented his appearance on many albums dedicated to guitarists such as Uli Jon Roth, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, and Shawn Lane.

Vivien Lalu  

Vivien Lalu

Vivien Lalu is a French composer, keyboard player, songwriter, and record producer. The son of Noelle and Michel Lalu, musicians from the ‘70s French progressive act Polène, he had a musical upbringing with his parents. However, he also studied shortly with Emmanuel David, a former student of jazz pianist and composer Thelonius Monk.
Lalu has released numerous recordings through an array of different bands and projects since 1997. He is better known for producing progressive metal records, in particular his own project LALU.
